The Clerk’s Office is often the first point of contact that citizens, persons doing business in the Town, and other government officials have with Bladensburg. Through expertise, innovation and cooperative partnerships, the Town Clerk’s office strives to facilitate and support the Town’s legislative processes and meetings, provide access to the official records, preserve the Town’s historic landmarks, and conduct elections with integrity.
Responsibilities of the Town Clerk
The Town clerk is the keeper of all official municipal records required by law and the custodian of the municipal seal. The Clerk signs and attests to official documents, records and maintains the minutes of the meetings, and maintains permanent records of all legislation.
The Clerk ensures that the Town complies with Federal State, and Local mandates including the Public Information Act and Open Meetings Laws.
Town Clerk’s Services
The Town Clerk’s office provides the following services:
Serves as Clerk to the Town Council;
Prepares for all Council Meetings (Council Meetings, Special Council Meetings, Council Work Sessions, and Public Hearings) including all agendas and minutes related to these meetings; and briefing materials;
Drafts ordinances, resolutions and proclamations;
Provides notifications to the public;
Coordinates Town Election procedures in conjunction with the Town’s Board of Supervisors of Elections;
Serves as custodian of the Town’s official records, including but not limited to Bladensburg’s Charter and Code, contracts and other agreements, minutes, ordinances and resolutions;
Responds to citizen inquiries, including Public Information Act Requests;
Provides support and assistance to other Town Departments;
Serves as State Retirement Coordinator;
Coordinates many of the Town’s special events;
Manages use of the Council Room and other Town facilities for meetings and events.
Writes and manages certain Federal, State, and County grants.
Serves as the coordinator for the restoration work at Bostwick.
Town Cable Television Channel
Did you know you can watch live video of Town Council Meetings on the town cable channels? Town of Bladensburg residents have the ability to watch video of the Town Council meetings on the Town cable channels. Town Council meetings take place on the second Monday of the month and are televised live from Town Hall.
Council meetings rebroadcast twice a day, every day at 10 a.m. and again at 7 p.m.
